Thinking of eating out in Leeds but unsure of where to dine? Here's some criteria generally used to judge restaurants in Leeds. With it's 2 universities, fantastic nightlife and quality restaurants, Leeds is the place to be. This guide to eating out is specifically based upon Leeds but could also be applied to other locations.

Don't be fobbed off with second rate food and service, Leeds is a vibrant place with lots of fantastic restaurants, so use a trusted restaurant guide to separate the good from the bad:

1) Level of service

Are you greeted and shown to your table in a polite and timely manner?

Is the menu concise and comprehensive? Also expect to pay less in and around the places where students tend to hang out. Namely Headingley, near the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan university. So judge the menu's based on location.

Are your drinks topped up when necessary?

Do the courses flow adequately? I.e. do you feel like you are being rushed between courses and are you waiting too long.

Are the waiters/waitresses friendly throughout the dining experience? No-one likes frowning staff. Afterall, you pay for the experience of eating out not just the food and there are many other places in Leeds that you could take your business.

2) Quality of food

Is the food what you would expect for the money?

Is it hot?

Is the taste and consistency right?

Could you cook it better yourself?

3) Would you come back again?

The sign of a good restaurant in Leeds or indeed anywhere else is if you feel satisfied and would return time and time again.

Would you, in good conscience, recommend the place to others?

Did you give a tip? We're not in America, we don't have to give tips, but us Brits give tips when the service is excellent. If you gave a tip then that's a sure sign of a good restaurant.

So how do I find good places to eat out in Leeds?

Well, you could:

Ask family and friends which restaurants in Leeds they recommend.
Phone up at 8pm on a Saturday night and see if you get a reservation.

Or you could just:

Go online and check out a restaurant review guide. So if you're coming to Leeds as a university student, just visiting or you live here, then you'll find a suitable place to eat out. So once you've checked out the Royal Armouries and Kirkstall Abbey, check out an online restaurant guide, maybe in one of Leeds' many cyber cafes, and get yourself into one of the great restaurants.
